About Karen’s Tutoring

karen1Karen Bell is a certified teacher who has worked with children of all ages for over 30 years in a variety of settings. For many years she did home daycare as well as worked in varying capacities with children in her community.

When her youngest child entered Kindergarten, she decided this was the perfect opportunity to finish her degree. In August of 1988 Karen graduated from Idaho State University with a degree in elementary education and a focus in reading.

Immediately following graduation her husband was transferred to the Portland, Oregon/Vancouver,Washington, area. Since living here, Karen has owned and operated a pre-school and was a substitute teacher for the Vancouver, Evergreen, and Washougal school districts. She spent six years tutoring children of all ages and grade levels in a nationally recognized learning center. Three of those six years she was the Education Director for the center. As she feels students benefit more from one to one instruction, Karen turned to privately tutoring in clients’ homes.

After raising four children, Karen and her husband moved to Washougal where she is  pursuing her passion of helping students one-on-one, face-to-face.

Karen believes that every student, given the opportunity and the instruction suited to his/her learning style, can learn. For students with learning disabilities, this opportunity and instruction should be one-to-one direct instruction using a multi-sensory approach. Sessions are continually adjusted to meet the individual needs of the student. And Karen always seeks to make learning fun.
